Audition Notice for the 2026 P@W One-Act Festival
Audition Dates and Times:
• Sunday, June 7, 2026, 5-7 p.m. (registration at 4:30 p.m.)
• Monday, June 8, 2026, 7-9 p.m. (registration at 6:30 p.m.)
Audition Location: Birmingham Village Players, 34660 Woodward Ave., Birmingham
Performance Dates:
• Friday, July 31, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.
• Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 2 p.m.
Most rehearsals will be held at the BVP Playhouse, Zoom, or other arrangements by the directors.
All four original plays will be performed at each show of the Festival. Each play is listed with character descriptions. Ages are suggested by each playwright (and/or director). You may audition for more than one role; however, actors are allowed to be in a maximum of two plays.

SYNOPSIS: A widower cautiously dips his toe back into the world of dating and tries to navigate his way through an awkward blind date.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
• Dan: early 50s, pediatrician, a widower for three years, nervously re-entering the dating scene
• Matt: early 50s, friend of Dan’s
• Amy: early 50s, Matt’s wife
• Amanda: early 50s, antique shop owner, divorcee, confident, yet vulnerable
• Server: any age, any gender

SYNOPSIS: Two sisters discover their mother has a secret that she has kept for many years.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
• Mom/Barb: THIS IS A NON-SPEAKING ROLE (age is mid to late 80s/early 90s)
• Laura: late 60s/early 70s. Laura is decisive and matter-of-fact, but also a sentimentalist.
• Lisa: late 60s/early 70s. Lisa is impulsive, creative, and nostalgic.
• Addy: late 20s/early 30s. Daily caregiver to Mom.

A Case for Marriage by Laura Bradshaw-Tucker
SYNOPSIS: It’s 2015, and the Supreme Court has recognized the right of gay people to marry. Jill can’t wait to tie the knot with her partner, Sandy. Sandy has other plans.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
• Sandy: 40-60– A gay woman in a relationship with Jill for several years. Before that, she was a suburban mom in an unhappy heterosexual marriage. She’s a lawyer and can be a bit cynical.
• Jill: 40-50– She’s a few years younger than Sandy, who is the love of her life. Vivacious and bubbly, she approaches life with enthusiasm and honesty, although she’s been hurt a few times.
• Ann: late 40s to 60-ish. A gay woman, friends of Jill and Sandy, and married to Kate for several years, but their union is not recognized in many states. Ann is a CPA.
• Kate: late 40s to 60-ish. A gay woman, friends of Jill and Sandy, and married to for Ann for several years, but their union is not recognized in many states. Kate’s a teacher.
