2025 P@W ONE ACT FESTIVAL
Audition dates: Sunday and Monday, June 1st and 2nd
Audition times: 7-9 pm Sunday and Monday (registration begins at 6:30)
Location: Birmingham Village Players, 34660 Woodward Ave., Birmingham
Performance dates: Friday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19 at 7:30 PM plus a 2:00 PM matinee on Sunday, July 20th
IMPORTANT – FESTIVAL LOCATION CHANGE
Due to renovation work at BVP this summer, the P@W Summer One Act Festival will be presented at Ridgedale Players in Troy (205 W Long Lake Rd, Troy, MI 48098).
Most rehearsals will be held at the BVP Playhouse, Zoom, or other arrangements by the directors. Dress rehearsals will be held at Ridgedale the week the Festival opens.
All four original plays will be performed at each show of the Festival. Each play is listed with character descriptions. Ages are suggested by each playwright (and/or director). You may audition for more than one role however actors are allowed to be in two plays maximum.

Keep Your Sunny Side Up by Jeffrey Shuster
Synopsis: An encounter between three vagrants living off the streets during the Great Depression provides them with an encouraging lesson on how to survive in a world that is seemingly without meaning.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
ALOYSIUS: 50-70 years old, happy-go-lucky, optimistic, erudite, formal, speaks with an air of distinction, philosophical
GLADYS: 50-70 years old, bad-tempered, pessimistic, loud, abrasive, not well educated
MILDRED: in her thirties, forlorn, not very bright, out of work actress, speaks with an annoyingly high-pitched New York accent as per Judy Holliday in “Born Yesterday”

Synopsis: Five senior citizens who serve as docents at a local art museum come up with an unusual plan to supplement their social security.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
DELORES – 60 – 80 female, Museum Docent – outgoing and brassy
MIRIAM – 60 – 80 female, Museum Docent – quiet and introverted
AGNES – 60 – 70 female, Museum Administrative Assistant – reserved but smart
RODNEY – 60 – 80 male, Museum Docent – gregarious and not self-aware
SANFORD – 60 – 80 male, Museum Docent – polite and gentlemanly
SAL – 40 – 50 female, Security Guard – generally bored

Synopsis: Two men from different generations meet in a bar and share insights about
the basketball game they’re watching as well as their lives.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
JERRY – bar patron, 30s
ANDY – bar patron, 70s
The Great Chicken Soup Cook-Off by Myron Stein
Synopsis: Three dis-spirited entrants in the Great Chicken Soup Cook-off competition come to grips with the fact that they lost to an unlikely winner, which leads to a reckoning of sorts.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
MAX, FRED, SUSAN – all mid-40’s to early 50’s.
GREG – the competition winner. Late teens.
All actors double at the beginning as random contestants.
